Choosing a Property in France

As the largest country in Western Europe, France has quite a number of properties which you can choose from—in all shapes, all sizes, and from different locations. You have a lot of choices and which one you eventually settle on depends entirely on your needs, preferences and budget.
For example some people would prefer a tourist area so they can rent out property and perhaps enjoy the entertainment facilities that one can find in these areas. Others want peace and quiet and prefer a remote location with few neighbors. Privacy is more important to them than partying (while others may find this kind of set up dull).
Budgets are also a reasonable constraint. After all without budgets you could miss payments and default on the loan—something you obviously don’t want to happen. It’s important to compute how much you can afford before you even go house hunting. For example don’t think about going to Paris if you have a strict budget because it’s one of the most expensive cities in the world. But you can find a beautiful home in another part of France.
Convenience also plays a big role as well. Do you have a car or do you need public transport? You might want to choose an easily accessible location if you travel a lot. Luckily France has an excellent system of railways and roads that connect the various cities and regions of the country, so in general you would never experience any difficulty getting to and from your property. Air France offers a domestic network covering the entire country from its hubs in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseilles, and it’s easy to connect to other flights when arriving from the UK or any other country. Various airlines are also offering more and more direct flights between smaller airports, making reaching your final destination even easier. Then of course there is also the TGV, the French high-speed train, which in many cases is as fast as or even faster than the airplane to travel within France.
However if you plan to be traveling in and out of the country a lot, then it would make sense to choose a home near the airport or train station.
On a more local level, you’ll have to decide whether you need to be close to a town or village. You may have friends in certain location Generally speaking the closer to a town a property is, the more it will cost. On the other hand, if you prefer to have more land around the house, it is more likely you will find it farther away from the towns.
So basically deciding where you would like to live requires looking at the pros and cons and which of the many factors are most important to you. It’s about priorities and then finding the properties that will match your needs. If you find a real estate agent she is sure to find you something that will be appropriate. Don’t give up and don’t settle for anything but the perfect home.
