Buying a Villa in Dordogne, France

Buying Villa in France

Dordogne is one of France’s most beautiful and historical regions. It is located in the picturesque province of Aquitaine and home to many amazing attractions.

Dordogne was once part of the province of Perigord, France. Then it was recognized as a separate city during the French Revolution in 1790, and was seen as one of the 83 original departments or areas.

Dordogne is an architectural gem. If you love finely crafted buildings with a history and culture then this is the place to buy a home. You’ll enjoy living in a place where medieval architecture is prevalent. You have a bigger chance of finding a historical home that just needs a little renovation to be brought back to its old glory.

For example in Dordogne you can actually buy an honest to goodness castle. This area is full of these historic landmarks and in fact there are over a thousand castles. Some of these are the Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, Beynac, Biron and Bourdeilles.

If you are going there as a tourist, then do stay for a little longer than usual to check out the climate, the culture and whether or not you want to stay there for several days of the year. Do this before tracking down your dream home so you know that this is really the best part of France for you to buy property. Don’t worry traveling in the area will be fun. There is plenty to see and do in Dordogne. This area is one of the favorite tourist destinations. These include the great caves of Lascaux and the Roman ruins of Perigeaux. It is located near the town centre inside a public park

The north east of the Dordogne is full of lush rolling hills, forests and even prairies. It is often referred to as “Le Perigord Vert”. The Limestone plateaus in the centre of the region are referred to as “le Perigord Blanc”.

You can also find a lot of properties you may not have thought of buying. For example seeing the dilapidated barn may have inspired you to renovate it and turn into a superior type of holiday accommodation.
